Slope Of A Line
Chapter Name : Straight Lines
Sub Topic Code : 104_11_10_02_01
Topic Name : Slope Of A Line
Sub Topic Name : Slope Of A Line
Introduction

A line in coordinate plane forms two angles with the x-axis which are supplementary. The angle made with the positive direction of x-axis and measured anti clockwise is called inclination of the line.

Pre-Requisites:

Idea about coordinate geometry, marking a point on the X-Y plane.

Real Life Question:

Anna’s friend Emma is standing 2km to the east of her. Another friend of her Sara is standing 2km to the north of Emma. What is the inclination of the line joining Sara and Anna to the line joining Anna and Emma.

Key Words Definitions (pref. in our own words)
Slope of a line If a line l makes an angle ? measured anti clockwise to the x-axis, then tan ? is called the slope or gradient of the line l. It is represented by m. Mathematically, m = tan ?
