What is a Histogram?
Basic knowledge about proportions and graphs
An interval of ten feet will have various bands used in it and each band is represented using a bar without any space in the interval.
How many students in the class have their birthdays in the month of January and how many in July?
Key Words | Definitions (pref. in our own words) |
---|---|
Graph Histogram | A graph is an abstract representation of a set of objects where some pairs of the objects are connected by links A bar graph without gap between the bars |
Gadgets | How it can be used |
---|---|
Rubber bands of different colors | Scale each rubber band according to its color in feet. Ask the student to form the front view of a 100x40 foot building using different bands. Form intervals of 10 feet in both directions and represent the number of various colored bands used in these intervals using bars. |
Representation of sales, surveys, numbers
Examples | Explainations |
---|---|
Sales Surveys | The sales of various products of a company are shown using histograms by dividing the year into production intervals Surveys use bar graphs to represent the data found with each value given in each interval using bar graphs |
A histogram is used to show distribution of data over intervals. Histograms don’t have gaps in between the bars.
Using various scaled bands of different colors, the structure can be formed uniquely in different ways using different number of different bands. The dimensions of structure are divided into several equal intervals. Each band is represented by a bar. The number of bands of a particular color used in a particular interval is represented using bars without gaps.
