Transfer Of Charge
Chapter Name : Some Natural Phenomena
Sub Topic Code : 101_08_15_04_01
Topic Name : Transfer Of Charge
Sub Topic Name : Transfer Of Charge
Introduction

When an uncharged body is made in contact with charged, charge is transferred from charged to uncharged body.

Pre-Requisites:

Introduction to charging by rubbing and types of charges.

Activity:

Take an electroscope and touch a charged rod on the metal terminal of the scope and see the deflection of the gold foils.

Real Life Question:

“You often have seen people having electric shock when they touch an electric wire by mistake, why this is so?” “When we touch an iron rod in the bus, we get slight shock but when we touch that again, we feel nothing. Why?”

Key Words / FlashCards
Key Words Definitions (pref. in our own words)
Earthing Process of flow of charges into the earth through any conducting medium.
Learning aids / Gadgets
Gadgets How it can be used
Electroscope It is used to determine the charges present on any body.
Real life uses :

To detect charges on any body, in electroscopes

Places to visit :

Your physics lab to see an electroscope.

Practical examples around us
Examples Explainations
Electroscope When a charged object is touched with the metal point of the electroscope, the gold foils deflect. Therefore it is used to detect charges on any body.
What you learn in Theory:

Charge can be transferred from charged body to uncharged body.

What you learn in Practice:

There s transfer of charges when we touch the charged object to the uncharged object. That is why people get shock when they touch a charged wire.
