Making In Order- The Modern Periodic Table
Chapter Name : Periodic Classification Of Elements
Sub Topic Code : 102_10_05_03_01
Topic Name : Making In Order- The Modern Periodic Table
Sub Topic Name : The Modern Periodic Table
Introduction

·         Henry Moseley  showed :

Atomic number is more fundamental  property than atomic mass

·         This led to modification in Mendeleev’s Periodic Law and atomic number became the basis of Modern Periodic Table.

·         Properties of elements are a periodic function of their atomic number.

·         Atomic Number = Number of protons, this number increases by one in
going from one element to the next.

·         Elements when arranged in the increasing order of Z led to the classification known as Modern Periodic Table.

·         Prediction of properties could be made with more precision in the Modern Periodic Table.

·         The limitations of Mendeleev's Periodic Table have been resolved in the Modern Periodic Table.

Pre-Requisites:

Periodic table

Activity:

Study the arrangement of different elements in the periodic table and see the similarity in properties within the same group or period.

Real Life Question:

How were different elements identified?

Key Words / FlashCards
Key Words Definitions (pref. in our own words)
Elements A chemical element is a pure chemical substance consisting of one type of atom distinguished by its atomic number, which is the number of protons in its nucleus. Elements are divided into metals, metalloids, and non-metals.
