The following are the basic requirements for working of a communication system: 1. A sender (source), which creates the message to be transmitted. 2. A medium that carries the message. 3. A receiver (sink), which receives the message.
Two way communications of course requires a transmitter and receiver at each end. A full-duplex (FDX) system has a channel that allows simultaneous transmission in both directions. A half-duplex (HDX) system allows transmission in either direction but not at the same time.
