Chapter Name : Electromagnetic Induction
Sub Topic Code : 101_12_06_06_01
Topic Name : Motional Electromotive Force
Sub Topic Name : Motional Electromotive Force
Introduction

An EMF can be induced in a conducting rod which is moving perpendicular to a magnetic field

Pre-Requisites:

Electromagnetic Induction, Magnetic Flux, Faraday’s Law of Induction, Motional Electromotive Force, EMF

Activity:

Connect a sliding rod over a conducting loop in the presence of a constant magnetic field perpendicular to the loop. Connect a galvanometer across any two points in the loop. Move the sliding rod at a fixed velocity and see if the value of current agrees with the motional emf value obtained theoretically.

Real Life Question:

Will an EMF be induced in a conducting rod moving in a magnetic field?

What you learn in Theory:

Can help us to find the polarity of EMF induced in conducting rod

What you learn in Practice:

That the EMF can be induced not only by varying the magnetic field across the loop. It can also be induced by moving an edge of the loop at a velocity.
