Sub Topic Name : Behr's Model Of An Atom |
· Bohr wanted to explain things which Rutherford's model failed to explain. So he made following postulates :
· (i) Electrons revolve around the nucleus in special orbits of certain radii, these orbits are called discreet orbits of electrons.
· (ii) The special point about these orbits is, in these orbits electrons do not radiate energy.
· Discreet orbits of electrons or shells are called energy levels.
· We name them as K, L, M, N... or by number 1, 2, 3...
· Here K or 1 denotes the innermost orbit
· In 1922 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics and Bohr's son, Aage Bohr, received the 1975 Nobel Prize in physics.
· They became the third father-son duo to have won the Nobel prizes.
