Introduction

Matter has mass. Mass is a measure of inertia. Mass of an object is purely due the the matter in it and is independent of any forces acting on it.

Pre-Requisites:

Matter, Equations Motion, Forces and Newton's laws of Motion

Activity:

Take a set of the some coins and stack them on top each other at least 12cms high. Then with one coin remaining slide and shoot out the bottom coin from the stack. The bottom coin should shoot out and the stack would remain as such. Repeat this for the coins remaining. The moving coin just has enough force to overcome the inertia of only bottom coin and aid its motion while the remaining retain the same position.

Real Life Question:

Known fact that it is easier to lift a lighter object than a heavier one. How is mass related to inertia of the body?

Examples Explainations
The tendency to turn left when the car suddenly takes a sharp right This is due to the tendency of the body to remain in the same state of motion.
