Sub Topic Name : Applying Identities
Introduction

The standard identities can suitably be used for solving many complicated algebraic expressions in a simpler way.

Pre-Requisites:

Algebraic Expressions, Terms, coefficients, variables

Activity:

Take a booklet. Try to play with identities by replacing them with negative sign. Initially, do it for just one of the variables. Next, go for the other variables as well. See what you get. Are these applicable in general to all the values?

Real Life Question:

If one had to solve large engineering problems like that of manufacturing heavy machinery parts conventionally, then it would be very very difficult.

Key Words / FlashCards
Key Words Definitions (pref. in our own words)
Identity An equation that is universal & true for all the values (in this case-Real numbers)
Learning aids / Gadgets
Gadgets How it can be used
Real life uses :

For finding out squares of large 5 digit numbers, these standard identities are very useful

Practical examples around us
Examples Explainations
Studying Tiny particles When studying tiny particles (like atoms), the resultant function of their behavior will be mostly algebraic expressions
What you learn in Theory:

(a+b)(a+b) = (a+b)2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab, (a-b)(a-b) = (a-b)2 = a2 + b2 -2ab, (a+b)(a-b) = a2 – b2 , How to apply these identities in large, complicated problems

What you learn in Practice:

The standard identities will be true for all the values.
