Chance And Probability
Chapter Name : Data Handling
Sub Topic Code : 104_08_05_05_04
Topic Name : Chance And Probability
Sub Topic Name : Outcomes As Events
Introduction

What is an event?

Pre-Requisites:

Basic knowledge about probability

Activity:

Let us say we require even number as sum. The probability of getting an even number as sum and the probability of getting an odd number as sum can be compared. The total sum of them both results in total probability which is 1.

Real Life Question:

What is the result when a dice is rolled?

Key Words / FlashCards
Key Words Definitions (pref. in our own words)
Probability The certainty of a desired outcome
Learning aids / Gadgets
Gadgets How it can be used
dice Take two dice and roll them. Note the sum of outcome every time and see how many times the desired outcome can occur.
Real life uses :

Games, experiments, reliability, error, automation, scooter kick

Practical examples around us
Examples Explainations
Toss The coin toss has an equal chance of a head and a tail as an outcome
Darts In the darts game, the chance of hitting the bull is minimum.
What you learn in Theory:

Everything is related to chance in its occurrence. Each event has a set of possible outcomes which has the same chance of happening. The probability when such events occur is the ratio of number of outcomes of particular event to number of outcomes of the experiment.

What you learn in Practice:

When two dice are rolled, any value ranging from 2 to 12 is likely to come with equal chance of occurrence. Thus this occurrence is equally likely. The probability of an even number occurring is more than the probability of odd number as the sum in this case.
