Sub Topic Name : A Bar Graph |
What is a graph?
Basic knowledge about proportions and graphs
The height of each bar gives the respective number of bands of different scales used in the construction of the structure.
How is the heartbeat of a patient represented?
Key Words | Definitions (pref. in our own words) |
---|---|
Graph Bar Graph | A graph is an abstract representation of a set of objects where some pairs of the objects are connected by links A graph represented using vertical bars |
Gadgets | How it can be used |
---|---|
Rubber bands of different colours | Scale each rubber band according to its colour in feet. Ask the student to form the front view of a 100x40 foot building using different bands. Represent the data using a bar graph with one bar given to a particular colour band. The height of the bar gives no. of bands used. |
Representation of sales, surveys, numbers
Examples | Explainations |
---|---|
Sales Surveys | The sales of various products of a company are shown using bar graphs with each bar given to a product and the height giving the no. of its sales. Surveys use bar graphs to represent the data found with the height of the bar giving the data in the survey. |
A bar graph uses vertical bars to represent data. The height of the bar gives the value. All the bars will be of equal width. A double bar graph is used for comparing the data.
Using various scaled bands of different colours, the structure can be formed uniquely in different ways using different number of different bands. Each band is represented by a vertical bar. The number of bands used is found out from the height of the respective bar.
