Chapter Name : Mensuration
Sub Topic Code : 104_08_11_03_02
Topic Name : Area Of General Quadrilateral
Sub Topic Name : Area Of Special Quadrilaterals
Introduction

Special quadrilateral Rhombus can be split into triangles by drawing both the diagonals (which in the case of a rhombus are perpendicular to each other)

Pre-Requisites:

Areas of triangles, triangulation

Activity:

Take four ice cream sticks and make them into a square. Measure the side. Now, slightly deform it uniformly so that sides become inclined but parallel to each other. Check if it’s a rhombus

Real Life Question:

What is the geometrical plane shape of a diamond?

Key Words / FlashCards
Key Words Definitions (pref. in our own words)
Rhombus A parallelogram that has four equal sides and opposite angles equal
Triangulation The technique of dividing a quadrilateral into two triangles
Learning aids / Gadgets
Gadgets How it can be used
Notebooks Take a list of your notebooks of all sizes. Separate them into parallelograms & Rhombuses
Real life uses :

The car jack which is used in repairing cars (any mechanic shop) is rhombus shaped. Rhombus is a kite but kite is NOT a Rhombus

Places to visit :

Malls, Apartments, temples, gift stores

Practical examples around us
Examples Explainations
Show piece Go to any gift store & you will find a lot of articles which are rhombus shaped
What you learn in Theory:

Area of a special quadrilateral (Rhombus) = ½ (d1 x d2) where d1 & d2 are the lengths of each of the diagonals

What you learn in Practice:

Rhombus shaped objects may be in any form-diamond, square. Square is a special Rhombus in which the angles are also equal (each angle being 90?)
