Types Of Polymerization Reactions
Chapter Name : Polymers
Sub Topic Code : 102_12_15_03_02
Topic Name : Types Of Polymerization Reactions
Sub Topic Name : Condensation Polymerization Or Step Growth Polymerization
Introduction

1.This type of polymerization generally involves a repetitive condensation reaction between two bi-functional monomers. 2.These poly-condensation reactions may result in the loss of some simple molecules as water, alcohol, etc. 3.The formation of terylene or dacron by the interaction of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid is an example of step growth polymerization. 4.Nylon 6 is obtained by heating caprolactum with water at a high temperature. 5.Nylon 6 is used for the manufacture of tire cords, fabrics and ropes. 6.Polyesters are the poly-condensation products of dicarboxylic acids and diols. Ex: Dacron. 7.It is manufactured by Heating a mixture of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid Temperature = 420 to 460 K Catalyst - zinc acetate antimony trioxide.
