Sub Topic Name : Nomenclature Of Elements With Atomic Numbers >100 |
The new elements with very high atomic numbers are so unstable that only minute quantities, sometimes only a few atoms of them are obtained. Sophisticated and costly equipment was required to make them. There was therefore a lot of competition and scientists used to name the element discovered without even doing proper research. The IUPAC therefore made a universal naming system to name these elements temporarily until proper name is suggested by the panel of IUPAC scientists.

In different languages, all things (living, non-living) have different common names.
Why are scientific names required for plants, animals and elements etc?
Key Words | Definitions (pref. in our own words) |
---|---|
Universal nomenclature | Naming an element by using a system that is applied universally helps to identify it properly |
Gadgets | How it can be used |
---|---|
Online Language dictionary | Use online dictionary for various languages and find out what are different things called in different languages. |
Having a universal naming system would help to communicate things better.

People call different objects by different names | A dog is called CHEIN in French, KALB in Arabic and DOG in English. |
Naming the elements with atomic number greater than 100 according to the IUPAC system helps to identify elements universally until they are allotted names according to their discoverers.
A universal nomenclature system is important in the sciences to identify elements correctly and to communicate correctly as well.
