Some Important Compounds Of Carbon And Silicon
Chapter Name : The P- Block Elements
Sub Topic Code : 102_11_11_09_04
Topic Name : Some Important Compounds Of Carbon And Silicon
Sub Topic Name : Silicones
Introduction

1. Silicone's are a group of organo-silicon polymers, which have (R2SiO) as a repeating unit. 2.Hydrolysis of dimethyldichlorosilane, (CH3)2SiCl2 followed by condensation polymerization yields straight chain polymers. 3. Silicone's being surrounded by non-polar alkyl groups are water repelling in nature. 4.They have in general high thermal stability, high dielectric strength and resistance to oxidation and chemicals. 5.They are used as sealant, greases, electrical insulators and for water proofing of fabrics. 6.Being bio-compatible they are also used in surgical and cosmetic implants.
